In construction sites where employees of several contractors work at the same time, in order to ensure proper cooperation and to meet legal requirements, it is necessary to coordinate activities from an occupational safety perspective. The coordination of work is determined by Decree 4/2002 (II. 20.) SzCsM-Eüm. In accordance with legal requirements, we coordinate the activities of the workers (contractors) on site in order to ensure safe work. This is the so-called. Safety and health (S&H) coordination.

Design Coordinator

The use of a Safety and Health Coordinator is mandatory during the design (design coordinator) to prepare the occupational safety plan chapter required for the plans. The so-called "integrated safety" must be ensured during the design. This means, among other things, that during the design, structures are designed into the construction elements from the outset that will facilitate safe work in the future. For example: construction auxiliary structures: scaffolding, covers, ladders, or anchor points for personal protective equipment to which they can be attached during the construction phase. According to Section 3 (1) of Decree 4/2002 (II. 20.) of the Hungarian Construction and Public Works Commission, "The designer is obliged to use (employ or commission) a coordinator during the preparation of the construction plan documentation. The coordinator shall carry out the tasks specified in Section 7 and shall make the necessary proposals for the professional preparation of the construction plan from the point of view of occupational health and safety."

The currently effective Joint Decree 4/2002. (II. 20.) SZCSM–EüM on the minimum occupational safety requirements to be implemented at construction workplaces and during construction processes, both directly and indirectly, defines who can be a safety and health coordinator: Section 2 (1) point 3: “A safety and health coordinator is a natural person…” and Section 14, “coordinator tasks are considered occupational safety professional activities (Mvt. Section 8).”
